'59 Mark 35A

I recently aquired a Mark 35A. The motor has been sitting some 15+ years. It turns over freely but has no spark. The lower is stuck in FWD. I have tried to shift it manually at the motor but its frozen. I don't want to break anything. Could have no lube, haven't checked yet
The motor is in nice shape, still has the Kiekhaefer seal and safety wire on the bolt.
I'm pretty handy with old motors but this is my first older Merc 4 cyl and would appreciate anyones advice who has worked or owned one of these or ones simmilar to it.

Mark75H is right, a 35A is a great little engine. It and the "Super Thunderbolt", the 44 ci engine (the 35A is a 40 ci) were arguably the best engines Kiekhaefer ever produced.

I have a 1955 Mark 55, a '58 Mark 58 and a '62 Merc 500 (40, 45 and 50 hp, respectively). Dependable and fast, they are really sweet to run. I have each of them set up with the bolt-on tiller handle accessory, which in today's collector market, are worth nearly as much as the engine! They are lots of fun to run set up this way.

Get a manual from oldmercs.com (pn C-90-25500) and study it thoroughly. Get a parts list from him too. Go to aomci.org and look up parts suppliers in the links section, or just buy all the parts you need from oldmercs.com or NAPA (Sierra line).
