PS Nothing like a AUDIO RESEARCH amp and preamp with good old direct to disk records my DQ-10's with sub . What an amazing sound stage. And it sure helped to have the speakers redesigned
and upgraded in my living room. by DQ himself.

I have a mildly upgraded sound sys. in my Lebaron.
Pioneer DEH-P835R deck (best they made when I bought it),
JBL GT 5 1/4" 2-ways in the doors,
Pioneer 6-disc CD changer, controlled by the deck,
Pioneer GM-X922 amp, 300W bridged (sub amp),
JL Audio 10" subs X 3 in a partitioned, sealed box, completely consumes the trunk.

It seems liek overkill, but it's a convertible and the wind would otherwise kill the sound at highway speed.

At home, my audio is kinda thrown together.

Sony reciever, it's actually a 12-year old boombox with the speakers detached. I connected a resistor network to the outputs to make them line-level. Feeds into a Peavey 215 rackmount EQ, then into an Alesis 100W x 2 power amp.
The power amp drives two Alesis Monitor One studio reference monitor speakers, and a pair of JBL bookshelf speakers. these are REAL James B. Lansing JBL's from the 1970's. They are fantastic. When I want to watch a movie, I disconnect the boombox reciever and plug my VCR audio outs into it instead. The TV is so small I won't even mention it. the VCR likes to eat tapes sometimes.

If anyone is looking, I just pulled two Rockford Fosgate 500A2 Amps out of my Yukon. They are approx. 2-3 years old. Work great. They are 500w x 1 or 250w x 2. $300 shipped.
Pictures and serial numbers available.

I play around with electronics, mostly guitar effects, but I'll tinker with anything. While I like high end audio, my budget doesn't think it's necessary. :D :D

Back in 94- 97 was into it real heavy. Traveled all over the south east competing in car audio comp. Had 3 state records & 5 world records. I competed in DB Drags, NSPL, WAC, and ISCA.

Just kinda out grew it.
Currently in the 'Burban
10-disk kenwood changer, MMATS amps & seperates, 2 10" Bostwick subs, 7" tv w/ DVD player

I work on corporate jet Avionics and aircraft entertainment day in and day out for Duncan Aviation. At home, 5.1 Onkyo TS-DX676 receiver running some Paradigm Monitor 90P's and an assortment of surround speakers and DVD and turntable and cassette and such, but I'm not 'into' the stuff like I was years ago. Some CB radio, some HF radio, but not anymore.
None of my stereo is 'high end', I was always too poor to go the extra huge dollars on audio when less dollars sounded great when researched long enough. Although, when I told some friends at work that my 'starter' priced surround system was about $5,000 they about died. To them, that's high end LOLOLOL

Thats one very nice setup but its not really what I meant by Hi End Audio.
What I'm talking about is $40-100K mono bloc amps , ribbon speakers that start at $25,000 a pair , seperate D/A and transport for the CD, analog systems with $8,000 turntables, $2000 cartridges, and Direct to Disc LP's that completely obliterate CD's. We are talking "The Doors" right there in the room with you . You can hear a pin drop in the recording studio. Wire that costs $600 a foot.

Mike, What you have is a very LOUD system and probably a system that can really pound out a 40hertz bass note. Not quit the same but obviously very nice for that style of system. Many of the audiophiles I deal with prefer BY FAR vacuum tubes, LP's and even studio reel to reel tapes. There is more information on an LP. CD's being digital are actually steps 1--10, an LP has an analog signal so you get the little details--.01 to 9.99 also. In fact the pits in an LP are smaller then the pits in a CD. More info , better sound quality. Same with tubes, solid state is off or on. Tubes are more analoglike in their abilities. In fact they can withstand a nuclear electrical pulse whereas solid state is fried by one. Cool huh?
Anyway, your car looked nice Michael.

Was loud (164.9 db) but also near perfect in sound quality. 60 bands of eq & usually scored scored high with less than 2db of deviation on a linear x scope.

Different audio than you were disscussing, but still close as both are in search of the best poss. reproduction of a tone.

I actually tried a few of the tube amps in my truck but they would not take the abuse(vibration). Killer power though.

Steve. I play the game. Not quite to the $ levels you state, but my system is all "Fire Bottles". I have hundreds of virgin vinal. I pick up good vinal when ever I can.
Cd/s belong in cars. P/s. My wife is the audiophile.
She can hear the difference between interconnects, and wires. I have been in the Hi Fi business since 1973. Saw tubes fade from the mainsteam.I used to judge "soundoff's, and DB drags a while ago. Right here in Northern Illinois, too!

Man, thats alright dude! You are 60 minutes from me. I'm in Sterling. What kind of tubes do you like? I have about 500Lps mostly DtoDisc and 1/2 speeds. I have been collecting tubes for about 12 years now. I have some cool stuff like MIG fighter power supply tubes, ICBM ( missle ) tubes, radar, transmitting, and of course the usual audio from 12AX7 to KT88 and everything in between. Whats your favorites? Do you build? I build all my stuff. Tell your wife to try the Flatline 2 conductor from Madisound . Excellent stuff for a very good price. My wife has great ears too. Women are supposed to keep their hearing longer and they can hear slightly larger range in both directions.

Yea, between model planes, model boats, gun.s, hifi, loud car's, and boats, my hearing is limited. I finally settled down with my audio research gear. What tubes? I dont know right now. The one.s that were in it when I got it. I might look some time. I had to start listening to the MUSIC, and not the HIFI.
Two channel forever.
Popeye.
P/s tube car fi ??

I used to own B&W 801Matrix's. I'll bet he went with the Nautilus speakers for that money though. Never liked the Krell stuff. Tubes that are properly designed around sound better to me. I build all my electronics except the D/A and transport. Sounds like a great sounding system! Did you get to demo it??
