MARK (and ROB)
Although Spaithe has the molds for the AE, he is not particularly fond of building them.
Also, the AE 21's were a nice boat, but were known to be "SLUGS" by comparison to the HST (Stoker) that they are based on.
Basically the boats were built too Heavy and really had trouble flying, the boats had a feeling of driving down hill too, which I found strange.
You could expect speeds of 75 to 80 with a 200 and low to mid 90's with 240-260 HP. with about 10" of setback. One of the best props that works on them is a MAZCO RE4.
Don't mean to discourage you....cause they are nice, unique boats.
JT did a Prop Test on the AE in the Oct'93 test (Mirage on Cover) of HB. I can send you photo copies if you want. He actually used my Cleaver on the boat for testing too!
Sincerely,

I just found out that Spaithe sold the AE Mold to a guy in Gananoque, Ont.

I am very familiar with the AE-21, I had the White with purple/yellow accent stripes that is on the IHR registery.
Question, Was there a difference in molds between the years of AE-21's?
Because one of the reasons I wanted the 94 X-Treme AE-21 over the the other models was the exact opposite of what you stated..... I found the boat to get up faster and easier to drive than my HST. In comparing weights my AE-21 was Lighter than my HST by 138#'s rigged w/o motor. (904#'s) This boat really accel'd with a 30p Mach Cleaver on the Yamaha that I had on it. We consistently ran in the mid to upper 90's on GPS with a very slightly modified foreigner (Yamaha) on it
I must say though I have riden in another AE-21 that was a dog. In fact it had more HP and still was flat.
Thanks for all the help
Mark

MARK,
I would be very interested to hear more about that AE you had. What Yaer was it? It obviously was one of the lighter laid up ones. Back in the mid 90's they made a real light lay up AE that was tested in HB.
Unfortunately for Spaithe, it was real tuff to build and as I understand, the boat did not hold up well.
Your AE was definately Extra - Ordinary and I am glad you were happy with it.
To my Knowledge , the mold has never changed.
Where is your AE now? Did you get it from the Thompson's at Fort Freemont?

Yes I bought it new in 1996 (hull was a 1994) from Fort Freemont Marine. They had it rigged at Boatec. I had bought with 225 Yamaha and switched to a 2.4 Bridgeport then back to the Yamaha after we had Problems with cooling the bridgport.
I don't know where the boat ended up after I sold during my divorce. I had heard that it is in Northern Florida with a new Yamaha on it but who knows..
The floor has 1 1/2 inch holes drilled through and reglassed over the bare wood to remove weight. Also it had the carbon fiber seats which I believe were removed by the owner after me and put in his Eliminator.
The pictures I have of my AE-21 do differ slightly in the top deck then most I've seen, Hard to explain but deck seemed more cupped and the bottom of the hull was sharpened and blueprinted.
Thanks for all of the great info Anthony.
